Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the virtues of family football scholarships and volunteering for the community. The first is the Selmon familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on an Eufala farm. In second football, he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the top lineman in America. He was awarded two championships as well as 32-1-1 in his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. In 1975, he received the third scholarship of his career and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work in his college days. Following college, he relocated into Tampa and played nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. Then he started his career. The year 1988 was the first time he began working as an Account Relation Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why The Junior Chamber of Commerce designated him as one of the most prominent young people in America. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds when he played college football. In 1975, he led the group. In 1993, Roy joined at the University of South Fla's athletic department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
