Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they appear in popular culture. Furthermore she has a mission to increase the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Inquiring about gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at university. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet to examine the gender representations in video games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. The woman was not stopped by the harassment, the fact is that it only bolstered her desire to become a media critic and feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in pop culture today.
